I was already well on my way before seeing that movie but it certainly did NOT do what my parents and date were hoping. Yep. Recovering evangelical here… we were super into it. Church bought out the Mom made pizza rolls shirt and I will buy this theater for multiple nights for a couple weeks. Ohhh buddy the evangelicals I grew up with ate that shit movie up. It was all the adults at my large church could talk about Now, Twister, that movie fucked me up . I was terrified every time I heard the tornado sirens in town after that It looks like the Matrix Reloaded actually holds that title. Came out a year earlier and made $100 million more. Still wild though. Saw this movie as a kid in theaters. I didn’t understand it due to the language barrier but I knew enough that it was about the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. I was raised Catholic so when I went to school to tell my friends about it, they looked at me like I was crazy My babysitter was Baptist but thought it was important for us to see this film. Although she also took me to see Pokemon 2000, that Jason Vorhees In Space film, Jurassic Park III, and one of the Saw movies. She was the best. She even bought me a Dreamcast. Love the idea of a Baptist so into their religion they take a child to see Passion, also being super into gorrror films, dinosaur flicks, and Pokémon. Actually based Yeah… one night she ended up having a mental breakdown, speaking in tongues and wielding a knife around her kids. She was admitted to the hospital and I haven’t seen her since. But I’ve kept in contact with her kids (same age as me, I consider them my siblings) and they said she’s doing alright now. Although I will never forget that time during the annual Fairhaven Easter egg drop where I got pushed over for a 2-liter of Dr. Thunder and she made up for it by taking me to godfather’s pizza and Pokemon cards. I remember 2 things about that movie- the sleeping bag beating at crystal lake and the line “this sucks on so many levels” as someone is getting sucked out of a hole in the hull. Somehow those made it worthwhile.
