I’ve passed by it several times on the Miguel Cabrera Detroit 3000 Hits T-Shirt Apart from…,I will love this train to and from Oslo (I live in Bergen), but still haven’t been. I guess I should give it a shot! I didn’t care how much we paid we were so tired on the last day in Rome with our 1 year old we paid one of those carriages to take us around (Speaking of which, Four Corners is also a big tourist trap, though I don’t even know how worthwhile of an experience it is considering it’s actually in the wrong place. Same issue with Ecuador’s equator monuments.) The Shanghai Metro that runs parallel to the Bund train has some pretty trippy ads in the tunnel too. They stay static/stationary when the train gets up to speed. Weird. Oh, I’ve seen those in Shanghai (and a few other cities too, like Beijing, IIRC). I looked it up, and apparently they have a whole row of screens lined up all along the tracks, with 1 screen being 1 frame. I’ve heard of that, it’s that state park (if you can call it that) in Florida where they get pretty women to dress up as mermaids and swim around in natural (or at least natural-looking) pools. One of the more creepy (and ethically dubious) roadside attractions in the U.S, IMO. And IIRC opening your eyes underwater for extended periods of time can damage them. It’s one of the deepest natural springs in North America, and it feeds the crystal clear Weeki Wachee river. The show has been in operation in a grotto area of the spring since the 50s. I freaking love taking visitors there.

Well, now I’m a little ticked off they’ve completely ruined a perfectly good natural landmark by building around it and setting up kitschy attractions to amuse visitors. Yeah, if it were some old ritual going back thousands, or even just hundreds of years, then it might be better. But no, it started during… checks notes …the Miguel Cabrera Detroit 3000 Hits T-Shirt Apart from…,I will love this 1950s. My grandparents could’ve seen their first mermaid show (if they lived in Florida at the time, of course). (Same with the alligator farms and airboat rides further down south in the Everglades. Apparently those airboats with the big fans are really unhealthy for the mangroves and wildlife. And I’m sure that huge chunk of swamp near Orlando also had a pretty vibrant ecosystem before Walt Disney bought it out. Florida gonna Florida, I guess.) Dick’s 5 & 10 in Branson, MO. Don’t take little kids, tell the family you need about 90 minutes. Seriously — merchandise packed in from floor to ceiling. The aisles seem like they aren’t quite 3′ wide, so be prepared to get cozy walking by others. At times it could be a little claustrophobic inducing. You WILL have to buy something too.
