It’s a weak crutch and a frail defense mechanism. If driving properly, following the law and being considerate, is too much trouble for you, it’s time to hang up the keys. You shouldn’t be on the road. It doesn’t matter how fast you drive over the limit, if a Ferrari comes up to you 150mph, you still move over regardless. I am one of these people who drives 90 MPH in the left lane (70 MPH limit). I am conscious of the fact that I should not expect everyone to be running as fast as me. When I approach another car in the left lane, I make a point to brake well before I get into their personal space. As long as you’re actively passing someone and not camping, I’m happy to let you take your time without harassing you, even if you’re doing 70-75. The seconds that I might save by tailgating you and rushing you out of the way is not worth the stress of getting worked up and increasing the risk of a crash. It’s far better for my mental health to adjust my own expectations that I will go fast only as traffic permits.

Most people, it seems, are pleasantly surprised to encounter a fast driver in a sports car who isn’t an asshole, and they get out of my way without any drama once they’re clear of the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Shirt also I will do this car they’re passing.
