I’m trying to be positive and patient but it’s getting ridiculous, ngl Meanwhile, my workplace is hiring people that are so inept, they need help opening up boxes and tying their own shoes (and no, they have no physical ailments). We’ve been begging them for year to just hire normal folks who aren’t two seconds away from having a mental breakdown or wiping out half the crew with a butter knife, but they never listen. Yeah, the problem with anecdotes on chat spaces like this. 1. We have no idea what jobs they are applying for or their actual skills and experience. Some sectors are more challenging to get hired in, sometimes it varies quite a bit (like with tech). 2. We have no idea where they live. In the middle of nowhere, the options are limited. Some may not even be in the US. 3. Those unemployed are going to have way more time to spend on spaces like this (though of course applying for work takes a lot of time too), whereas those working full time will have much less, especially if they have a partner/spouse, kids, and offline hobbies. 4. Those who do have jobs are going to be hesitant to respond in a section where everyone is talking about how they don’t not wanting to seem like they’re being a contrarian jerk and get downvoted.

Fortunatelly here in Germany we are protected against being fired on a whim. Not only its hard to fire someone, but you get to work and be fully paid for 3 months after you get fired. And if you get laid off not because of your own fault, you get paid like 60% by gov for even longer (think up to a year, my friend has this happening right now). I used to love doing research till I realised that I could be spending my entire life doing it and writing papers but having very little reward! It might be nice if financial institutions could help with that though. Wages all need to raise imo. Texas is 7.25 where houses are cheap in the area but you’d need at least 15+ to make a living. Now there’s layoffs everywhere. The field that’s making headlines everyday AI, don’t even have jobs. Literally doing 100s of job applications in a week and not even getting a single interview call. We are all fucked! There has to be incentive on both sides, too far capitalist and too far socialist isn’t optimal because you are killing incentive. Where we are now is killing incentive for people at the bottom because it would take a life changing lick to significantly change their standard of living Point I’m getting at saving the spare change from your W2 alone isn’t going to impact the big picture for most people. We just have to keep this up until we can’t anymore. Maybe we’ll just get too old to work, maybe we’ll succumb to a treatable medical condition because we either can’t afford treatment or can’t rest enough to get well, or maybe this economy will reach a point where no amount of work can cover the basic costs of living, so those of us who draw the line at paying our entire income to sleep in someone’s bathtub with three other broke people will simple have no place to live. Thankfully after my husband and I struggled for 6-7 years we aren’t paycheck to paycheck anymore. We perpetually only had $500 combined and were always worried about finances. And this is the main reason we won’t have kids. We are 29F and 33M, and both our families are pushing the idea of kids down our throats. But if we had 2 young kids, we’d be right back to paycheck to paycheck. It sucks this is the world we live in.

Coming from someone who makes what most people consider a great paycheck.. I’m still living paycheck to paycheck and just hoping to stay afloat so I don’t lose the things I’ve worked for so far.
No one has ever wanted to work. Ever. You give anyone enough money that they don’t have to work, and they won’t. People half ass their life into adulthood and expect to live a comfortable life. You have enough money to spend it, but not so much money that you aren’t scared of losing your job, meaning you’ll put up with more shit and higher expectations in the name of keeping ahold of your human rights.
Yet people I work with struggle to get paycheck to paycheck because they bought a big detach house and brand new trucks and blow money on pointless things. Living paycheck to paycheck doesn’t always mean you don’t make enough, sometimes people just aren’t responsible with their money. I don’t have certifications or qualifications on paper but I have 20 years of working experience in multiple fields and leadership roles also. The recruitment teams were mostly migrants who had been in the country for years and were in the selection panels for applicants.

In order to get insurance to operate these dangerous businesses, your employees have to have access to some sort of healthcare. As the OB-GYNs flee, it starts a cycle wherein these clinics will continually lose resources and likely close. If the clinics close, places like timber mills can’t operate because they won’t be insured. Once you lose that industry, everything else takes a hit, people leave, things, especially poverty levels get worse. It’s going to hit the entire region’s wallet in a year or two.

Doctors don’t want to see them because they don’t want Idaho to try to come after them for harming Idaho babies, they don’t want the MAGAts to sue them.
She ended up “only” being fined over some minor administrative issue, but it was a giant red flag showing that at least some right-wing prosecutors are determined to terrorize any OB-GYN that provides even legal abortion care. But some of whatever exodus happens might nudge some other state into a position where they gain one. It takes time though. CA is poised to lose one and TX to gain one. Not enough for anything to matter, nor are they swing states. That’s no incentive for Republicans in these states to retain population, especially population that could have any kind of liberal leaning. There’s every incentive to just keep pushing it right, until only a hardcore set of believers remain, who will never, ever, vote for a democrat. In any election. Curious how Wisconsin will turn out. Seems they were able to end gerrymandering there. Isn’t that a swing state?
