Just dont look. It does hurt. But it is a very low level of hurt. Less significant than dropping a remote on your foot or stubbing a toe. You’ll feel a very brief sharp pain as the needle breaks the skin. Once the needle is in you won’t feel anything. A bit, but it’s so little that it’s more of a mild annoyance. The spot may be slightly bruised afterwards, but again only to the point of being a mild annoyance. Popping a zit or getting a scratch is more painful. I had one done last year but I didn’t had enough water so when the blood barely comes out on the 3rd & 4th vial, it hurts for a while. On a scale of 1 to pain, I’d say it’s a 1… a sharp prick. Afterwards you’ll realize that the anticipation of it was far worse than the reality. The most important thing you can do is to be well hydrated. This makes your veins easy to find so that they only have to do it once. Drink lots of fluids between now and your blood draw. Don’t bail. It really is an incredibly important diagnostic tool to be able to spot any health issues you may have. Seriously, you’re gonna be doing this for the rest of your life in annual checkups and such, so you might as well get good with it now. You’ve got this.

I have blood tests every couple of months. It’s best described as feeling like a strong nip or a pinch. I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite sensation but it’s no worse than that. I’ve had a few. Non have ever hurt. I don’t look, and there a slight prick in your arm. It really doesn’t hurt…. The needle they use is tiny, just big enough to poke a hole for the cannula. For every test, that’s every separate vial of blood, they’ll just connect the vial to the cannula. They just pop on and off like lego. I had my blood tested once a week for six months. Sometimes it hurt, sometimes it didn’t. Sometimes I felt lightheaded, sometimes I didn’t. Make sure you’re hydrated if you want to skip feeling woozy. Here’s my experience of the level of pain from multiple blood tests. After the test, they tape a piece of cotton wool over the hole. Removing that tape, pulling out the hairs on my arm, was more painful than the test. Every single time. So that’s the pain level you’re looking at. Less than yanking out a hair. If you pluck your eyebrows, that’s more painful than the needle. It won’t be comfortable but to be honest it’s more the idea of it than the actual experience that people are afraid of. And it’s over fast. I suggest looking away if it bothers you. It doesn’t bother me so I watch. I’ve had ones I barely noticed and ones that hurt like a son of a b. You are young which usually means your veins will be easy to find and the pain will be a light scratch/pinch.
