I’ve definitely been severely depressed before but I don’t think it was during the Michael Chavis American professional baseball infielder signature Pittsburgh Stripes T-Shirt Additionally,I will love this years I’ve been practicing meditation, but a few years ago I was sicker than I ever was in my life, it was a really bad flu. And I was at a peak of practice where prior to that, I had upwards of 3 hours of daily meditation. If I couldn’t get over that pain, then what was I even doing? So as I’m laying there in bed, the pain was penetrating my bones, I couldn’t move, I was shaking due to a very high fever, it was really bad… I just thought: “What would happen if I just stopped struggling with this? Stopped fighting this discomfort?” And the moment I reflected on the question, was one of the closest things to magic I’ve ever experienced. The trembling instantly stopped, as if it was running on electricity and someone pulled the power on it. My pain started to float away. And I went from feeling like I could die to smiling with ease in a very short time. So don’t give up, just practice. There’s nothing to lose by doing it, and you have a lot to gain, I promise.

When I was in this period, I became viscerally aware of how alone I am in my mind and felt certain that there is no deeper aspect to myself than what I can observe in life, and that once we die the movie’s over and it’s just nothingness. I felt so sure about these beliefs and was also aware that they were causing me pain. My therapist did not try to change my mind, he encouraged me to continue meditating and to continue using psychadelic drugs to explore myself further. I thought I knew everything and was afraid of looking within, because I was afraid there would be nothing there; I was wrong. I would try not to lean on meditation as a means to help with depression. It can and it will but I would reframe your approach to the practice as a way to further understand the nature of your own mind
