And now they are jumping ship for greener pastures. The companies that embrace change will survive while those that don’t will see talent slowly bleed out, until they are a dying decaying corpse Dumb, indeed. These CEOs are presenting nothing more than an inability to adapt to the Merry 4th of July Biden Bike Bicycle falls Off funny T-Shirt and by the same token and new “norm”. This isn’t the 90s and in the States for instance, there is plenty of bandwidth to facility remote work and that capacity is growing by the day. As an architect in a modular company z I been wanting to work from home.. it’s full of old people and not 2pm I’m left alone in my area hahah. I don’t blame them. I am not an Apple senior tech but I do alright. I already earn vastly more than I really need. I am mortgage and debt free, I have investments, etc, etc. Money hasn’t really been an issue for more for over a decade and I could quite happily retire now and not worry about money the rest of my life as I suspect most of these people at Apple could also do considering what they earn.

Now I am late 30s what I want more than money is time. In fact I wanted this a few years ago so much I dropped to a 4 day work week. Not compressed hours (that wouldn’t get me more time now would it ?) but just 4 normal 7.5h days. So yes I totally understand people not wanting to spend 1 or 2 or even 3 hours a day commuting into an office to have virtual meetings with people in different offices or countries. Not to mention more wasted time with longer than needed lunch breaks, coffee breaks, etc. Obviously some people love the office and for sure there are some times being all together makes a lot of sense but you need to balance what works best for you personally. For me I work better without the distractions and interruptions and I don’t really “miss” the social aspect. Only one or two of my colleagues are friends and I see them outside of work anyway. The rest of my friends are not colleagues so I don’t feel I am missing out on any kind of social life. If anything I am more sociable since WFH as I have more time for myself not commuting. But of course this is different for literally everyone. Some people only have friends from work so I can understand not being at work is quite isolating for them.
