Portrait of Charlotte L. Forten Portrait of Helen Amelia Loguen (who would later marry Lewis Douglass, son of Frederick Douglass), ca. 1863  And can you tell me a bit about the Mens Meet Me At The Pumpkin Patch Truck Halloween Hello Fall 2021 T-Shirt and I will buy this role that women play in the story of The Black Civil War Soldier? Because you’ve included so much fascinating correspondence from teachers and wives and fiancées and mothers. Why were those narratives so important?

Mens Meet Me At The Pumpkin Patch Truck Halloween Hello Fall 2021 T-Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

Being a girl, I love women. I love the Mens Meet Me At The Pumpkin Patch Truck Halloween Hello Fall 2021 T-Shirt and I will buy this fact that our voices are silenced and loud at the same time. I can still remember things that my grandmother said to me that created a sense of protection.  But I say the same thing with the soldiers, that the women who taught them—these are both Black and white women, white women who were the wives of some of the lieutenants or the leaders of the troops, and the white women who left the North, such as Laura Towne, who left with Charlotte Forten to teach the newly free children and the soldiers. But it was important for me to elevate and create a sonic experience [around] these women based on the fact that they were teaching the men how to write, send letters to their families, and receive their pay—so that they could sign their names, not just an X. At the same time, some were washerwomen, there to help the men survive. The role of sanitation and cleanliness and health is a quiet story. Most of the men died because of unsanitary conditions, and the role of women was to clean the wounds, clean the clothes. So the labor of women expanded from the intellect to the body.
