Did you demean or put down this individual because of his race? No. Did you say or imply he was inferior to another race? No. Did you describe him in a demeaning way because of his race? No (unless there is more you aren’t telling us). IMO, nothing you said was racist. It’s funny how uncomfortable some white people get about acknowledging race. We had a bday party many years ago in our suburban mostly-white area. My kid has one black friend. I was standing chatting with his mom and another mom came over and I introduced the Meme One Piece Corazon Shirt Furthermore, I will do this two moms to each other. White mom says to black mom “which one is your son?” Black mom says “I think you’ll figure it out!” Im surprised there isn’t a subreddit dedicated to stories like this. And for people on the receiving end of the prospective racism. It’s not racist but there’s many “big black” guys. They probably just paused to think how stupid you are for not knowing his name or ONLY saying he’s big and black.

I think she was a bit moody at our counter, and so my colleagues were trying to explain to me which customer it was. It probably took about 20 minutes for me to figure out it was the Meme One Piece Corazon Shirt Furthermore, I will do this black lady. I said, if you had started with that, we wouldve been done ages ago! Descriptors are fine. If im black, please call me black! We would 100% describe someone as white/asian, so unsure why its so difficult to call someone black. ‘Person of colour’ is far too vague, and the opposite of that is ‘person of no colour’? Why are ethnicities being grouped together and white people get their own descriptor? Doesnt make sense to me. No. Acknowledging race is not racist. Races exist. For something to be racist it must be stereotypical or derogatory. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t understand the English language and is looking for things to be offended about. Personally I think it all depends on your tone. The way some folks say “black” can sound a lot different than how others might. It’s not about saying “Black”. There’s nothing inherently racist in that. And whether people will refer to themselves as black, or African American, or a person of color, or anything else, is also usually a personal preference (might be individual, might be family , might be regional).
