Snacky snacks. My gran used to serve them with afternoon tea (oh her teas were epic) so for me they are a mid afternoon snack with butter and a cup of tea. (Preferably with a tonne of cakes and biscuits but perfectly acceptable by themselves) Any time, any (WITHIN REASON) topping, just like pancakes. Today I cut a load into cubes and tossed them in a lake of butter and air fried them and holy moly what a snack. A breakfast food that you can choose to eat at any time. My preference is jam and butter. Had some last weekend and enjoyed so much had a day solely eating crumpets. They can be eaten any time. Crumpets are perfectly possible as a breakfast food, but they’re a kind of bread and as such good as a base for sweet or savoury. Marmite is as good as marmalade on a crumpet. Slightly over toasted so you get crispy edges then covered in so much butter that it drips down your arm is the only way to have them for me. Goddammit I love crumpets so much. I eat them as more of a snack too (with cheese done in the air fryer ) or sometimes instead of toast with soup, but that’s just because I am a diehard porridge for breakfast person
