There are affordable places to live, they just all suck massively and no one wants to live there. Increasingly business and speculators are buying up housing as an investment resource. Since you can’t just make more land this creates a scarcity in that market, which in turn drives up housing costs and incentivizes business and speculators to invest in more properties. The cycle continues until everyone is either rich or homeless.
