Neither employee would have been let go or replaced out of spite for demanding a pay increase or else. We liked them and did our best. It just has been crazy market and some companies are just paying way more than we can. One eventually left a year later to do something different than we could offer and at 25% over the Marvin Gaye Retro American R&B and soul singer and songwriter T-Shirt but in fact I love this raise we got them. Another is still here but being overworked. I am trying my best to tell his boss to go easy on him. So happy I did. My salary has gone up tremendously since the counteroffer. I just received a 4.5% merit increase this year and I took the counter 2.5 years ago. It’s a hard job but the pay and acknowledgment of my worth keeps me working hard. Corporations no longer treat employees with respect by raising their salaries for merit or added responsibilities. They resist any requests for reasonable raises. So, unfortunately, the new normal is to threaten to leave. So, the previous norm of worrying about being somehow marked for replacement after a successful “negotiation” (giving notice and getting the counter) isn’t a thing anymore.

I like my current jobs and am respected, but the Marvin Gaye Retro American R&B and soul singer and songwriter T-Shirt but in fact I love this company sucks ass as far as raises and bonuses are concerned. Found a new place for more. I gave notice. My boss’ boss said they’d match the new company’s offer. Being old, and believing the above, I said nope, and took the new job. Huge mistake – was a credit card processing company – NO redeeming qualities; fucking parasites. I was able to negotiate the same pay hike with my old company and was hired back. Lesson learned. Not me but wife- she stayed and got a 20% bump and promotions after – if you approach it with humility under “I want to stay but I have been approached and offered a higher rate, is there anything that this company can do?”
