4YOE here, got laid off late in February. Haven’t switched career paths yet, but with how I haven’t managed to find anything yet I’ve been really considering it. I’d like to be a National/State park ranger or something, but I imagine that has to be stupidly hard to get into for not a ton of pay. Honestly, my plan would be to pick up a trade school course in contract work (construction, welding, etc) and use that as a bridge to see if I like it enough to switch Sorry, you do not meet the Marvel x Disney 100 Variant Cover Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars Shirt in addition I really love this minimum sitewide comment karma requirement of 10 to post a comment. I haven’t even entered the Marvel x Disney 100 Variant Cover Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars Shirt in addition I really love this workforce yet and 10 years of college alone made me reconsider this path multiple times. Be aware that changing career is not 100% easy – you may need to have significant savings to cover living costs and the retraining courses. Also, there is always the risk that after all the effort and cost, you will fail the exams needed for your new career! If you want to deal with people you can get your Agile/Scrum certifications and transition into Scrum Master / Project Management type stuff. Even regular software team management requires more people skills and almost zero coding. With either path you won’t be writing code but you’ll still be in the industry. I got a couple Scrum certifications earlier this year, so if I ever get truly tired of programming, I could try to get a job as a Scrum master. Good luck to you! I got a scrum cert 10 years ago. Eventually got tired with scrum (especially the daily standup part, which i felt overkill and more of a daily status report), and i felt that a Prince 2 project management helped me more in delivering and leading successful projects. It’s not a bad thing to not be buried in tech 24/7. It’s good to have some balance and you can succeed in this industry without living and breathing computers. Yes! I’m struggling with this so much. I think what I want is to work for myself. But our jobs can very easily feel like golden cages. I’m not sure I can make the same money alone so for now I’m sticking to this.
