16.7 billion dollars absolute minimum could be spent to give wells to the Marty Robbins & The Tennesseans In person direct from grand ole T-Shirt in addition I really love this most impoverished people in Africa. But maintaining those wells would be impossible for the people to do themselves without extra money. Bill gates and the other ultra rich have like 95% of their wealth in their companies. So unless they sell significant parts of their company they don’t actually just have cash to spend on whatever they want. (Well, they still have many many millions, just not anywhere near the 200 billion you see as net worth.). If bill gates wanted to spend 30 billion on the impoverished in Africa and sold like 30% of his company that would have likely catastrophic effects for the share value. IF he could even find buyers for that kind of cash. It’s not the money he has rather than the value his ownership has.

If someone wants to sell their shares in a company, they need buyers. So, that hypothetical 30 billion has to come from somewhere. Either from some other really rich people or a bit from some common people. So that begs the Marty Robbins & The Tennesseans In person direct from grand ole T-Shirt in addition I really love this question why doesn’t everyone who would purchase these $30 billion in shares just donate said money to those people instead? The money has to come from somewhere. Either or, I don’t care who donates. But, I’m sure they could stomach to lose a few hundred million $ even without selling shares… so I agree in the sentiment that the ultra rich can definitely do more. But I wouldn’t expect them to be able to donate on the order of tens of billions because they actually don’t have that money on hand. Some do a decent job of that, but virtually all of them could do more.
