Yes, a psychologist has a doctorate degree in psychology and can be referred to as a doctor the Made In Heaven Jojo shirt in contrast I will get this same way that someone with a PhD in English can be referred to as a doctor. They are not medical doctors. They are not licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons. I was not trying to denigrate from their expertise more trying to make the distinction as it is often confused. Yes, they can make diagnoses in their realm of expertise however I’m pretty confident “abuser” is not found anywhere in the DSM-V. I’m even more confident that the College of Psychologists would frown upon a “diagnosis” made without ever seeing a person in real life. If you have an appointment existing lawyer ask them. But therapy through phone and email is valid and the psychologist is allowed to testify based simply on the things their patient has told them. They haven’t been hired to evaluate you. Exactly, they haven’t been hired to evaluate him. Therefore reaching a conclusion of abuser on someone you haven’t evaluated is at the very least incompetent.

This is the Made In Heaven Jojo shirt in contrast I will get this rub for me, it wasn’t “My client has stated in our sessions that she has been abused” or “Her behavior reflects that of an abused woman”. It was, “OP is an abuser because my client told me he was.”. True, that’s the problem with Reddit and social media as a whole. Not unlike OP’s complaint, we’re only getting one side of the story. Yep! This entire thing will come down to exactly how it was worded. How OP interpreted what was actually said is another story! “OP is an abuser” is very different than “my client outlined XYZ abusive behaviour from their spouse on this date”. As a registered social worker myself, this is why I’m very precise in the language I use in my documentation, and would be equally as precise if I ended up subpoenaed to court.
