I will never make my kids feel bad for “costing me money” in order to take care of their mental or physical health, or for them asking for help. They’re 18&19. We talk about it all. And I always asked after any visit somewhere if they were safe while there and if anything happened like SA specifically.

She told me she thought I’d save her time and time again. Only. Have. Kids. If. You. Are. Mentally. And. Physically. Well. I’ll die on this hill. I will never drink too much alcohol that I’m not able to drive my child to their friend’s house after school, activities or pick them up. My dad changed his ways first of all and he wasn’t malicious. He was also a victim of abuse. It’s no excuse, but he did better himself.
He would raise his voice, scream and thunder. He mentally and physically abused me to the point that I am living in pain 24/7 and have been since a young age. The physical abuse stoped, but the mental abuse continued well into my late teens He was a victim of abuse much much worse than me and his father was not just abused but right out tortured. But him abusing me was his choice. Just like it was my choice to slap my toddlers on the hands too hard (at all really). Like it was my choice to hit my 4 y/o daughter over the head. I did it once exactly. It was a common thing then, to smack a kid upside the head. But I have felt guilty ever since, rightfully so. It was my choice to do that and it was my choice to stop it. To never ever do it again. I still feel horrible thinking back on that. And I was pressured by everyone saying that’s a normal thing to do and you should do it. But it was my choice, I did that. I smacked her and it was so awful. No matter what anyone said I knew it was wrong right away
I can’t think for my father. I can’t read his mind. But he must have known how wrong it was. Especially coming from an abusive situation himself My parents did a lot of good, don’t get me wrong. My heart broke so many times when another dog was given away to someone else Don’t get pets if you can’t or don’t intend to actually care for them. Your kids will be heartbroken time and again. He won’t visit on my birthday because 2,50 for parking is too expensive. He will bake cakes (he used to be a pastry chef) free of charge -paying out of pocket for all ingredients- for anyone and he will spend 3 times the parking costs on gas to visit my siblings. I offered countless times to cover the parking, but spending 2,50 on my birthday is too much. You can probably see why I went no contact a few years ago. He’s still surprised pikachu about this
