Where I work was just like, fuck it, you guys did great during WFH, so now we’re remote forever. Last time I drive by my old building it had a big For Sale sign on it. Which kind of sucks, because I left a plant and several yogurt spoons in there when we thought we’d be back in a few weeks. I hope someone saved my plant. They are figuring out that you can’t tell millennials what to do even if you are their employers. I run a business and figured this out a long time ago. They’ll just quit. People act as if this is one size fits all and ALL employees don’t want to return to the LOVE School Nurse Stethoscope Fireworks USA Flag 4th Of July T-Shirt moreover I love this office. I know plenty that do. For some jobs, an office does provide certain advantages that WFH from homes doesn’t or you’d have to pay to upgrade your home office. (and lets be honest, a lot of companies like WFH because it passes the expense of running an office onto the employees). I think what people really want is flexibility. I’d personally love to have an office, but have the flexibility to chose the days and times I’m in the office and when I’m at home. I volunteered to go back to my office part time in February and it has been awesome. I actually enjoyed the routine change and I started hitting the gym (employer provided) again which is something I wouldn’t do at home.

I’m genuinely curious what perks you’ve heard from anyone besides managers type positions. I don’t know anyone who wants to go back to work, and most of my friends have quit to work elsewhere when they were asked to return to the LOVE School Nurse Stethoscope Fireworks USA Flag 4th Of July T-Shirt moreover I love this office. I don’t know anyone who likes being in a cubicle. And this is all ignoring the largest issue: commute. I have yet to see an office situation match or beat the commute from WFH, and even a luxuriously small 30 min commute is an hour of my life that I’m not getting paid for despite using it to appease corporate. What benefit could possibly outweigh that? Apple is butthurt because they spent a fortune on their campus and now no one wants to use it and they don’t want to look like dumbasses to their investors. And these employees need to be careful what they wish for. If you are truly going virtual, I’m sure there are qualified people in other countries willing to do their job just as well for less money.
