I hope you don’t mind but I quickly clicked on your profile and I’m gathering that you’re in the Love Kansas Jayhawks Shirt and by the same token and Czech Republic, which is quite societally different to us, with Prague as maybe a slight exception but still nowhere near as “me me me” as UK/USA is today. I could completely concieve of why you might not see this the same way because your country hasn’t societally fractured quite as much as here. I do not mind, but my answer was one coming from an American POV. I wont go into detail too much, but I have been mostly friends with Americans for most of my life, and kind of spent important years of my life in that environment. Oh god absolutely not. XD Way worse. Here friendship is mostly an afterthought. Not only are the friendships nowhere near as close, but they get abandoned once the person gets into a relationship or married. I know this is a thing elsewhere too, but it is way worse here. Though I do not really have any friends here at the moment, but that is because of other reasons, such as my values and views being incompatible with this country.

It’s a fucking tv show. If you’re asking if people had situations like these in the Love Kansas Jayhawks Shirt and by the same token and 90’s? Yes. Was it common? Probably not exactly. I’ve lived in many different cities on both east coast and west coast. I’ve met people in my building that I avoid like the fucking plague and some that have ended up being my true best friends. My usual mantra at this point is “the more people I meet, the more I like my dog”. I felt the same way, but as I grew older (around mid-20s right now), I realise that in real friendship, the most regular get togethers are gonna be weekly or fortnightly. But you might not be satisfied with that level of interaction. Regular interaction is more natural if you do a shared interest, perhaps join a sport club? In short: the type of friendship in those sitcoms is in my opinion, not realistic and pretty rare. In real life, those characters would probably meet weekly or fortnightly.
