And he was right – it was. You got a real sense being there that people (in particular workers) just… weren’t valued as much as they are in North America. Everyone was replaceable. It was a weird experience. The other thing is just how common “servants” are there. I was there for work for a couple months and the Love death robots funny shirt moreover I love this office I was working from had a small army of cleaners and caterers working round the clock. If anything, the vibe I got was that they considered it something of a responsibility to employ more cleaners/caterers than they actually needed, because it cost them next to nothing. I lived in a Canadian suburb with a large % of Indian immigrants. One thing that had to be explained to a lot of newcomers from India is the price of labour. Here in Canada the price of labour, especially contractors, is very expensive. But in India you can hire a bunch of manual labour workers to do everything in your house for ultra cheap- all in one day you can pay a bunch of guys to replace all your lightbulbs, replace your walkway, clean your house, repaint the rooms for dirt fucking cheap. Because there is a massive amount of labourers there. Here in Canada not so much and apparently this blows the mind of the Indians who immigrate here.

Very much this. When I talk to my relatives in my home country, they’re horrified to know that I have to clean, mop, vacuum, wash and iron my own clothes, babysit the Love death robots funny shirt moreover I love this kids etc. Those daily chores aren’t even a thought for them because almost everyone (lower middle class and up) has servants to do those things for them. Some people hire cooks to cook all their meals. When I visit home, we use my uncle’s driver to take us everywhere we want to go. Labor is so cheap there, it’s pennies per day even in their native currencies. Here in the US, hiring someone to clean your house for a few hours is like $100+ at minimum. My relatives wonder how one even manages working full time and then having to do all the chores as well!
