It’s telling that you had to start making things up. Yes you obviously need to tip. Refusing to isn’t going to magically result in higher wages being paid to the staff. No. It’s just going to fuck over someone who was relying on that tip. Although I do agree that tip culture is going nuts..tipping the To Go person has been a thing for a very long time.. Like, who cares? It doesn’t say tipping is required? Is everybody up in arms because of the signs? Genuinely don’t understand why this is considered even mildly infuriating. Some places, you can’t tip even if you wanted to. Another perspective, nobody said the tip had to money.

At my bar, there is one person scheduled at a time. That means I’m the bartender, the server, the cook, the cashier, the busser, the dishwasher… everything. When I have a full bar and have food orders coming in, I run my ass off to make sure it gets out in a reasonable amount of time and people’s drinks aren’t empty. It’s so overwhelming sometimes. I never expect 20% on to-go orders, but it really sucks when people order $150 worth of food while I’m slammed and then don’t leave me a dime. I’m a delivery/uber driver, and I get upset about people not tipping, mostly on deliveries. I wish people would just apologize if they can’t afford it or don’t believe in it. That being said, this is CRAZY. This really brings to light the fact that employers don’t want to pay their workers what they deserve. Super disrespectful to the customer. Ordering for pickup is what you’re supposed to do if you don’t want to tip. Ridiculous. I’m willing to bet at least half of you complaining about tipping on a to go order are 5x the poverty line. And you should absolutely be tipping.
