As a 68 year old I still take multi week bike touring trips that require planning, map reading, decisions on the go; I can still teach my grad level finance classes; I keep a marriage, a household, and my physical fitness going. Now can I do all that at 70, 75, 80? Not sure but there are folks who have dementia much earlier than 65 so I think the age is arbitrary. I’m all for drug tests and whatever are the other quals necessary to ensure mental acuity. Also since every American that can vote has a smart phone maybe we should be voting on all the things they vote on. They get the ideas and we vote on them

Shouldn’t have to make rules about this, but just like how some elderly drivers refuse to stop driving, there absolutely are politicians that need to retire. Seems unfair that we’ll all be working till we’re 90 and they finish at 65. They should be forced to find another job after 65 No. People over 65 deserve to be represented in government. Tom Cruise is like 62 and he just made a movie on the international space station. The real one. In space. My retirement age is 67 so i like mandatory retirement for them to be the same. Also to have access to the same retirement options and healthcare I do, no more and no less Honestly, we could go out to 70 or even 75, but after 65, you should be required to do regular cognitive testing and prove some kind of understanding on your constituents wants and demographic. Test center conditions. No aides permitted in the room. Failure to comply means your office passes to whoever is next until you do so and are deemed fit to serve again. I’d say 70-75. They want to raise the age for us poor people, they can live by the same guidelines.
