Lil Rob, born Robert Gonzales, rose to fame in the 1990s with his hit songs that celebrated Chicano culture and promoted peace. However, it was his off-stage activism that truly set him apart. In 1993, he founded the Gangster Intervention Program (GRIP), a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing gang violence in Los Angeles.
