Fewer than half of Americans 18 to 29 voted in the 2016 presidential election. The old presidents are pretty recent in the US. Prior to that we had 24 years of relatively young presidents. Clinton was pretty young, he was 46. GWB was pretty young as well at 54. Obama was young at 47. This shit goes in cycles. There’s no trend towards older candidates. It’s whoever is basically available at the right time. I have always said wisdom does not come with age it comes with experience…Older doesn’t make you smarter, just set in your ways. Most Presidents of the past 100 years have not actually been *that* old, it’s a relatively recent accident with Trump and Biden. Yes Reagan and Bush 1 were in their 60’s when in office but that’s not super duper old. Obama, Bush 2, Clinton, Carter, Ford, Nixon, LBJ, Kennedy were not super old. Eisenhower was in his 60’s which isn’t super old either. Most US president are in their 50’s and 60’s when in office which isn’t really that old when considering the authority of the office. Mostly just recent chance with Trump and Biden. By 2028 I think we’ll have another long string of 50 and 60 something Presidents. Old people have time to vote and vote for old people. Old people have had time to build a reputation and power that it takes to get put into those positions, and no elected representative ever is going to vote on term limits as it limits their career I mean it is an annoying thing. Generally we see older people as wiser, but being president is one place where we don’t need old school people as the eras they grew up in are now outdated. I’m sure if the younger start to out number the older, we may see younger people running and winning.
