These used to be my favourite summer insect when I was a kid. For some I reason loved them, and we used to see loads in the Kyle Hendricks Chicago C Player Map Signature T-Shirt in addition I really love this South East. But I’m in my 50s, and I haven’t seen one for years. Decline of stag beetles due to the removal of their habitats, and people tidying up dead wood from (er) woods. Imagine someone complaining that their local park had a rotten old tree in it that was untidy, and that tree being carted off. Well, that’s the end of stag beetles in that park! Not so rare in the Midlands , I’ve found a few last year and this year . One at the base of a rotten tree and the others under a wooden shed I removed . The shed was was in danger of collapsing into the pavement potentially injuring a member of the public , unavoidable I’m afraid . But they were moved to the very back of the garden amongst some rotten logs . I’m sure they were quite content with their new home .

I live in South East and they have certai ly become rare over the Kyle Hendricks Chicago C Player Map Signature T-Shirt in addition I really love this years use to see them all the time now rarely and I mean rarely These guys spend several years as a bug eating dead wood in a tree before spending only a few months attempting to find a mate. Quite often they will lose a leg or mandible. They only use their mandibles to wrestle other males, turning their adversary over onto their back. The surprising fly too, very badly and make a hell of a noise especially when the hit windows, walls basically anything in or around them. Used to see these a fair bit when I was a kid. After seeing your comment it made me think that its been a long time since I last saw one. Really sad but if I do then I will make sure I log it. Ahhh I wish I thought about logging my sightings. I’ve seen them only a couple of times. Last year one hovered around my head and wouldn’t leave me alone.
