Lol I had to scroll too far for the KYLE BUSCH #8 TALLADEGA RACE WIN SHIRT it is in the first place but correct and blunt answer backed by the statistics in OPs post. So before y’all cry racism, that is literally not how that works here. Well over time younger people enter this metric, and they are far more likely to think of OJ as ‘that guy who killed his wife’ rather than his athletic career. There was a portion of my life where I didn’t even know he played football, I still don’t know his position or team he played for. He was a Heisman winning running back and legendary NFL player. At the time everyone knew him. Below is my favorite butterfly effect. The Buffalo Bills barely lost a game in 1970 by missing on a bad pass for a touchdown. That loss allowed them to get the first pick in the draft, O.J. Simpson. OJ stays in Buffalo for awhile, meets his wife, then allegedly kills her. Then hiring Kardashians father to be his lawyer. They win the case, making the Kardashians somewhat famous. Then Kim drops the sex tape, becomes famous. Yeah all I know about him really is the trial stuff, if he wasn’t involved in that I probably wouldn’t have heard about him, just another athlete before my time. Same. I knew him from Naked Gun. Due to the trial, I knew that he was a former football player, but it wasn’t til much later that I learned just how big of a deal he was as a player. At the time, I had seen clips of the Bronco chase many times and knew there was a trial going on that all the adults were very interested in. However, I was mostly oblivious to the racial politics that made the case so compelling. I remember my teacher had us listen to the verdict live on the radio, which was in retrospect is kinda weird. He played running back. He was the first person to run for 2000 yards. He did it in a 14 game season. That is insane.

I was like 14 when that happened. Cable news wasn’t everywhere, and I frankly didn’t really even watch local news, so I didn’t follow the KYLE BUSCH #8 TALLADEGA RACE WIN SHIRT it is in the first place but case really. I’m also black. I can tell you that, if I’m being honest, I don’t think my parents and aunts and uncles ever truly believed he wasn’t guilty. They are too smart to see all that and not think he did it. They wanted him to not be guilty, and more importantly they wanted him to be FOUND not guilty. It wasn’t too long after the Rodney King stuff went down, so I think my parents saw this as some kind of karmic justice. I don’t truly get it. If someone is guilty of murder, you shouldn’t really want them to get away with murder just because other white people got away with it in the past. That doesn’t really balance the scale when 2 innocent people were killed.
