Not saying racism isn’t a factor, but I think ignorance of places like Guam, US Virgin islands, Puerto Rico, the King Henry The 8th Of England Henry Christmas shirt Also,I will get this Northern Marianas, which are all US territories with US citizens is a bigger factor. I bet people from all of them have similar stories. I (begrudgingly)went on a cruise that started in San Juan, when I was on the bus to get to the boat I still distinctly remember, even almost 20 years later, what the middle aged couple behind me said in the most stereotypical ignorant American moron accent. “What kinda monkey money they use in this place, Pesos?” “yeah, I think they use Pesos or somethin here” followed by a bunch of other ignorant shit that I don’t remember. At that moment I knew exactly what type of people I was going to be stuck on a boat with.

The amount of people who have BEEN to PR and say they “went to a foreign country” / “out of the King Henry The 8th Of England Henry Christmas shirt Also,I will get this country” / “overseas” (ordered in decreasing degrees of baffling). Like would you say that about Hawaii or Alaska I’ve had a surprising number of people say they wanted to visit me in Hawaii when I lived there, but they don’t have a passport. Some of these people were medical staff. Smart people. Yet somehow, they thought they needed a passport to go to our 50th state. Mind boggling. Perhaps once Puerto Rico can actually vote in US elections people will treat them less like second-class citizens. The sad truth is that Puerto Ricans aren’t “as American” as other Americans, there’s a very significant legal, social, and cultural division between Puerto Rico and the rest of the USA and even Puerto Rico itself cannot decide whether it wants to be a state, completely independent, or keep the status quo. They will not. They’re now getting most of the benefits yet they pay no federal taxes.. why would Puerto Rico want to start paying federal taxes when they’re already getting all the benefits?
