My first boyfriend would lie, badly, all the time about non important stuff. I only ever called him out the once – after he had lied about having no fillings yet the teeth in his mouth were full of them. I think he was trying to make himself sound interesting. I wish I’d had the confidence at the time to tell him that I knew they were lies. My first boyfriend did this. We were together from around age 16 to 18 and he would always tell people he’d worked in loads of different places. He’d never had a job but he would constantly lie in front of me to other people and either invent work stories or nick mine. Like he literally told my boss a story of mine from when I worked as a day labourer in front of me. When I called him on he would just shrug and act like I was weird. Mine did this, then later admitted he was hoping I’d get handsier to try to figure out which one it was the next time I went down on him. Joke’s on me, it worked.

I love hearing about these sorts of long lasting lies, especially where it’s something that is believed until adult you thinks about it again and realises there’s no way that it would have happened.
