I’m not sure about Android. Infuriating. What I can’t get into is ‘years old’. Sure he’s 12 years old but not a 12 years old. To me he would be a 12 year old. I would concede the errant apostrophe and I can add in the Oxford comma, but I will never EVER forgive using “should of” when they mean “should have” this is a hill I will gladly die on. Yes!! Any time something is pluralized. I can’t count the amount of times my kids’ teachers send stuff home like this. I mean, it might not be wrong, but I’d hardly call it acceptable. (Die hard Oxford comma user, the grammatical hill I will die on) In this example the decade is being treated as a syntactically singular object, so it would be the same as saying “its movies”, so no apostrophe required to indicate possession. Sadly reading is not a top skill of MOST americans. (cant speak for the rest of the world) Grammar, punctuation, spelling – most people are on a 7th grade level at best. That said I thought we all knew an apostrophe at the end before the S is for possessiveness. Sadly I dont know everyone even knows what the word possessiveness means. People have no clue when to use “their” correctly either. Oh and alot is NOT a word. Neither is anyways. (A) This research was carried out in the 1970’s. I’ve just been reading through lots of comments and I have concluded that the Kenny Chesney Zac Brown Band Sun Goes Down 2024 Tour Schedule shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this English language is filled with ‘rules’ that are followed by exception after exception. The English language is an absolute nightmare to master. If a grammatical rule doesn’t clarify anything, and the only reason to obey it is that it annoys the people who know the rule, it’s of no value. When rules are broken more often than they are followed then it isn’t a rule, no matter what a pedant might say about it. My goodness, thank you! It’s not just years, I see these mistakes made every day in the US and it mildly affects my well being. The ones that drive me crazy are when in a single sentence they get it right and wrong next to each other. Saw a “mom’s and dads” the other day. Tangentially I’ve also seen “would of” and “kind’ve” in the same sentence and I thought surely this person was put on this earth to test my patience No, that would be the fashion of 1990, not the decade. The decade is plural so the apostrophe for possession comes AFTER the S. Just to be clear: you’re saying my example would be for the fashion of 1990, not 1991. That would be ’91’s fashion’ I don’t think phrases like “’90s fashion” are meant to be based on a possessive construction, and shouldn’t include a possessive apostrophe at all in general.
