Maybe not the Kelsey Plum’s Arcade Slam shirt in other words I will buy this best example, because not being interested in the love of a child certainly does NOT mean they hate love, or can’t love. But it’s not really about the love your child has for you, it’s the love you feel for your child. And people are essentially saying that on the spectrum of loving feelings, the love for your own child is all the way up there. It’s love at maximum volume. I’ve loved and love parents, grandparents, siblings, romantic partners, animals, etc. And they’re all slightly different, but powerful and beautiful feelings in their own way, some are more intense than others without being ‘better’ or ‘worse’. But then there’s the love for your child and it just blasts you in the heart and pours into every nook and cranny of your soul until you feel like there’s nowhere to put it anymore. And suddenly you realise you didn’t really know how deep love can actually go. Most childless people’s knee jerk reaction is to feel that people who are gushing about it are trying to invalidate other types of love, or are saying it’s ‘better’ than theirs – and I totally get how it can come across like that – but it’s actually the polar opposite. Parental love is so complete and total that it spills over into everything. It makes you go from respecting love to revering it.

A better analogy would be sunshine. For most of us, but it’s also worth noting and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with not wanting to have that kind of love.
