I haven’t played DnD in a while but afaik Lawful doesn’t necessarily means the Kazuma Kuwabara Spirit Sword Yu Yu Hakusho shirt moreover I love this character always follows the law, it means that they have a strong sense of justice that they follow at all times. Someone who’s Lawful Good wouldn’t follow the law if it’s unfair to people. Thank you. Thought I was going crazy down here in the comments. We’re calling a guy who stole a baby a hero? Is ‘not wanting to hurt a baby’s all it takes to be a good person? Lawful doesnt literally mean following the law. It means having a strong set of internal morales/virtues and following them. Depending on what ur moral code is, sure. Morals dont have to be good. Thats why its lawful evil not lawful good. His morals might be “ill do anything to feed my family, including stealing, but I dont want to hurt anyone” etc. now idk the context of this theft I’m just making an example.

Yeah, Lawful Good is like “You jaywalked, therefore you have broken the Kazuma Kuwabara Spirit Sword Yu Yu Hakusho shirt moreover I love this law and must be reported to the police” That said, playing a “Lawful Anal” character can prove to be a barrel of laughs depending on what kind of group you’re playing with and in what kinds of scenarios, and especially if your DM is able to play along and introduce random ordinances. I remember a friend telling me about a scheme he and his DM cooked up where the party went into a town with a thousand weird minor laws that nobody actually followed, stuff like “All weapons must be carried no lower than one inch below the belt line during daylight hours” and “men must not wear their hair in any style other than short back and sides” and his Lawful Anal character spent a whole session just desperately making sure the entire party followed every rule to the letter, even the ones that contradicted other ones. According to him a good time was had by all, and an even better time was had when their chaotic evil PC reduced said town to a pile of bureaucratic ashes.
