Huh. I’m ngl I thought Birmingham City Centre was beautiful when I visited. It looked way nicer than the Kawaii Octopus Shir it is in the first place but rep people had given it. Honestly prefer it to what I saw of Manchester. Birmingham was much lauded in its infant years but neglected in its youth and has grown up to be a bit of a black sheep. We’ve only got ourselves to blame. Mother Britannia let her down. I’ve always had a good time when I’ve visited. Made some friends with people I met at concerts and always found enough to do. The countryside outside the city centre is actually quite nice looking. Post war Birmingham got really big and the government stopped funding to develop it because they were worried it would threaten London’s income.

Also Birmingham has always been its own place. It’s a relatively new city that grew up as a trading town outside of the Kawaii Octopus Shir it is in the first place but aristocratic hierarchy of land ownership, people were as good as their actions and people were traditionally very suspicious of anyone making pretensions towards being aristocratic. This has given the population a self deprecating sense of humour and an intolerance for anyone being ‘up themselves’. The lack of identity of Birmingham is an identity of its own, it’s always been hard to define culturally. There’s a lot of creativity and many outsiders to the city don’t know about or visit the many independent bars, shops, restaurants and other things to do. There’s a thriving independent scene that you won’t know about if all you visit is the city centre.
