When we got our cats raw food was in vogue and that’s what the breeders were pushing. Though our contract basically just said we couldn’t change the diet for at least four weeks (not unreasonable) and then only under the breeders supervision (kind of unreasonable, and we just ignored this) and that they wouldn’t accept any responsibility for stomach upsets caused by a change in diet (not unreasonable). Sidenote raw feeding is largely horseshit. There isn’t really any scientific evidence that it’s any better for cats and dogs, it’s all just anecdotal crap from people that probably switched to raw from a lower quality food, there’s also probably some form of placebo effect going on too. We noticed zero difference when we switched them off it. It’s more expensive, more inconvenient (having to defrost it is a pain in the ass), riskier to both animals and humans (bacteria loves raw meat), and it makes their poop stink worse than usual. The worst thing about fad pet diets is that that’s their only food. They need to get all their vitamins and stuff from their food. Commercial pet foods have everything they need, but if you’re designing your pet diet based on lifestyle blogs, you could be missing important stuff.
