I mix male / female. In Cyberpunk (first person) it was more about the Justin Jefferson Minnesota One-Handed T-Shirt and by the same token and female VA being much preferred vs the character model I rarely see. Why do humans play as elves or orcs? Why do short people play as tall characters? Why do ugly people play as attractive characters? Why do young people play as old characters? Because they want to. I don’t care what gender my character has either way. I would much rather play a fixed character with a good story written around it, than being able to choose my gender/looks/whatever and have a generic story that fits all. The character you choose, whether it’s writing or gaming, is usually someone you want to be or want to screw. Our ape brains are pretty predictable.

A couple reasons, first of all, if I’m going to be playing in the Justin Jefferson Minnesota One-Handed T-Shirt and by the same token and third person for a hundred hours. I’d much rather look at a female model for those hundred hours. Just going to be honest. For shooter games, females tend to have smaller models. The hitboxes may be the same, but if the model itself is just a little bit smaller, and just a little harder to see, and even if it only saves me 1 in 100 times, it’s still a tiny little competitive advantage, and I’ll take it. I’m sure there’s loads of different reasons, there’s competitive games where the extra amount of screen you can see by using the smaller characters makes a difference, woman are usually smaller. Or if different character classes have different abilities maybe one of the woman fit how I want to play the game better. Or just as simple as I already get to be a man in the real world why not try something different.
