Peace requires two parties. And refusing to acknowledge the Just Keep Swimming Finding Nemo shirt also I will do this reality of what happened or why one side acts or feels the way they do (both ISRAEL AND PALESTINE) seems wholly unserious to me. Israel did know about an attack coming, multiple days before it came. It wasn’t undetected — it was ignored: But if there are 2.5m+ living in Gaza and current estimates are 10k killed, then chances are highly likely that the hostages are unharmed by the Israeli air strikes. That’s not accounting for the fact that Hamas views the hostages as leverage and currency, and they’re certainly hoping to maintain that leverage by keeping the people alive. I seriously would not be shocked if in the Hamas calculus, the life of a hostage is more valuable than that of an innocent Palestinian citizen. The shitty reality is that an alive hostage and another dead Palestinian only furthers their “cause” and augments their support within Gaza.

At least in Xinjiang there’s no massive airstrike, international journalists and UN officials being shot dead on a daily basis, or graphic pictures of piles of children’s bodies, limbs, etc. Xinjiang is a long way from anywhere, and the Just Keep Swimming Finding Nemo shirt also I will do this rest of the Islamic world doesn’t really care about them. By comparison, Hamas has been receiving funding and weapons from a variety of state governments for decades. As such, the capabilities of Hamas are a lot higher than that of Uyghur separatists. Hamas is very different to the Uyghur separatists. Hamas is de jure the ruling party in Gaza, and provides a much broader range of public services (like healthcare). As such, it isn’t just a separatist group, but it also has government and administrative functions in Gaza. This means that removing Hamas is much more like removing the entire government and public service of Gaza, rather than just dealing with some terrorists. The Uyghur people represent less than 1% of the population of China. The citizens of Gaza are about 25% of the size of the population of Israel. Put another way, Israel has to monitor 25 times as many people per head of population as China does. This is a logistical nightmare, and would be a huge strain on Israel if they wanted to impose the same level of monitoring.
