Take it from someone who has been bossing people around for an extensive part of the Just a girl who loves winter and ravens peanuts autumn tree shirt and I will buy this past two decades: the less your boss sees of you – the better. I never chit-chat with self-motivated top performers. I only do it when I need to commend them on a job well done. There isn’t time for much more. We are all busy. Part of what keeps us busy, is having to constantly devote time and special attention to people, who need extra effort in terms of motivation, pep-talk, etc. In essence – if your boss has their plate full (and by your description, it seems so), they will only get involved if they see you as a problematic performer. Same goes the other way around – your boss probably also has one, who will drill them if there is something wrong; will give them pep talk when they want them to know their routine is being paid attention to, etc…

Anyhow, there is nothing wrong with not getting bossily attention. I would have been more worried if they weren’t making an effort to keep your working hours utilized, and by your account she seems to try to keep you occupied. Going to work is not about being liked. If the Just a girl who loves winter and ravens peanuts autumn tree shirt and I will buy this work environment is fundamentally decent, you are being treated and paid fairly, then go in, do your job effectively and efficiently, and then go home. Continuing to grow as a person is very important and often overlooked, so take a moment for self-reflection and see if your life feels like it is on track toward achieving your goals. It might be that it is time to face some hard truths, to make some tough decisions, or even to take a leap of faith. I have found that when I am very intentionally working towards meaningful goals (that I have chosen and am energized by, not goals that society says I “should do”) then I don’t care if some random person who truly has no control over my life doesn’t like me. Good luck making your life and career meaningful and satisfying to you.
