Most of these guys are retired now but when I was hearing these stories a decade ago they were respected businessmen, doctors, lawyers, and military officers. To them these were all stupid things they did while young and didn’t represent them when I met them or even today (if they’re still alive). As my dad said “if we tried that crap today we’d be in jail with no prospects”. Everyone who hasn’t already should watch the Just a girl who loves gymnastics heart pink T-Shirt also I will do this Made in America documentary about OJ’s life, the trial, and the social climate in LA leading up to it. A lot of folks missed it because it came out around the same time as the miniseries drama, which was also good, but not nearly as deep of a dive into the social aspects of why things went down the way they did. People forget the context surrounding the case too. At the time the LAPD was overtly corrupt and racist, and racial tensions were pretty high. In the midst of that you had this relatively well liked black celebrity accused of murdering his white wife. For many black people during that time this case screamed set up.

One of the Just a girl who loves gymnastics heart pink T-Shirt also I will do this jurors interviewed not long ago said that no black person on that jury was going to vote to convict OJ. Only if they weren’t actually following the trial which they were. It was abundantly obvious that, irregardless of the behavior of anyone else, OJ was guilty as hell. Maybe Shaq is the comparison? S-Tier star when he was playing, still famous for endorsements and commentating on the NBA. But even Shaq has shown some of the sharper parts of his personality in public back in the Kobe feud days. I would still be real surprised if he killed somebody, tbf…. It would be like Michael strahan committing murder now. Beloved NFL player, universal good guy, and media darling. Thats a good comparison. OJ was even bigger than Strahan in 94, but yeah definitely same kind of persona and image. Walker was already infamous for being part of the most lopsided trade of all time then sucking once he got traded. “Medavoy came to me and [producer Gale Anne Hurd] and he said, ‘Are you sitting down? You must sit down. I want O.J. Simpson for the Terminator,” he recalled. “Gale and I just looked at each other and thought, ‘You’ve got to be f- - -ing kidding me. How do we get out of this?” Two things stopped the Juice from playing the Terminator, Cameron’s awareness of the problematic nature of having “an African-American man chasing around a white girl with a knife” and how well he hit it off with Schwarzenegger during a meeting
