There are so many different cultures within the Jose Altuve Grande Venezuelan professional baseball second baseman T-Shirt and I love this broad label of “white American culture”. Suburbanites have little in common with ranchers in Oklahoma, or someone from rural Louisiana. It’s all different. A lot of people associate Appalachian culture with white people, even though the Appalachian people are predominantly but not always white. Their culture is unique, however. Being from the foothills of NC, some of the culture spills over in my area. There are lots of interesting myths and enduring generational poverty, amongst other things. As a white American, I can’t think of any culture that is specific to my identity as white and American besides being slightly less anxious when I see a cop. There are tons of different cultures in America and some of them are predominantly white… but there isn’t a monolithic white American culture.

From the Jose Altuve Grande Venezuelan professional baseball second baseman T-Shirt and I love this outside America does look like a country that has very little culture, aside from capitalism. I am sure if people travelled around and experienced it they would find culture though. I read that this stems from the British Upper Crust of the Colonial era, who had the habit of looking down on colonials. They fancied themselves in some kind of pinnacle of culture and refinement and looked with derision at all others whose class was lower to theirs. It was an expression used of country or working class Brits too, not just Colonials. But certainly implied of the US, South Africa, Australia etc. But the US caught even more of it because of its independence. It is on purpose. People try to frame white people as a monolith when we in fact do have many different cultures, some of these are dominant cultures within their local area, others are not. German-American Culture in Wisconsin, Jewish American Culture in NYC, Irish-American Culture in Boston,
