Thought I’d just remind everyone thatTrump argued in federal court, the Jon Jones American professional mixed martial artist T-Shirt moreover I love this president is immune from being prosecuted for assassinating a political opponent. And this is one reason Ukrainians no longer wish to be under the influence of Moscow. The US should promote freedom and democracy. When you have a country that wants to be under Democratic values, we should support that especially when they are fighting Russian oppression. Yep it’s a no brainer. This is one of those foreign situations where a Democratic nation is being invaded but an autocratic nation. This is a country where the will of the people is towards self governing principles. Defending that will is easy if you care about principles of self rule governing.

Exactly. Ukraine’s desire for democratic values goes back to 2013 when the Jon Jones American professional mixed martial artist T-Shirt moreover I love this Maiden Uprising kicked off as a direct result of President Viktor Yanukovych’s sudden decision not to sign the European Union–Ukraine Association Agreement and instead chose closer ties to Russia. The people of Ukraine saw their country slide closer to Russia and away from Europe and said absolutely the fuck not. Nah, usually the US overthrows someone – who was elected – for the crime of being to the left of Goebbels and installs a dictatorship. Unwillingness to give Ukraine the help it needs / deserves is a pretty typical instance of American foreign policy. Oh of course the US has installed and backed dictatorships throughout the past. I think most Americans (who are aware of that at least) heavily scorn it. I’m assuming they were thinking more about recent efforts like in Afghanistan and Iraq where we made a huge deal about bringing freedom and democracy and the bungled the nation-building. I think in the long term those ideas would have benefitted the relevant populations, but we did a sloppy job filling the power vacuum of toppled governments with new democratic institutions, and that’s fallen back in places like Afghanistan. Ukraine on the other hand has been moving toward closer ties with Europe and the US for quite some time out of their own will. Its population seems to be strongly in favor of democratic institutions, even if there is still quite some corruption, but they seem intent on improving that. Ukraine’s the best bet we’ve seen in a long time where we can actually use our influence for good and have it stick.
