I would avoid ever just turning around and kissing somebody without their prior knowledge or consent. That’s considered assault depending on how strict someone is about their definition of SA. You need to verbally confirm your feelings for him, as scary as that may be. Don’t let being scared get you to commit a crime. He did hear you, his brain won’t be able to process that someone likes him, he’ll ask you to confirm. He is not playing games when he asks, he isn’t about to ridicule you. Please enjoy eachother responsibly. Sit next to him and lay your head on his shoulder. A woman once did that to me on a Thanksgiving after hours of talking, and when a movie was started. I took her hand and we kind of cuddled. A day or two later was our first date. Flash your tits, on accident, of course. That’ll get his attention. If not, then he’s dead. I’m assuming you’re female, of course.

My success was with study groups, parties etc. “going out” one on one was too intimidating. One exception. I knew a girl in 8th grade. And she popped up on FB…43 years later. Yes. I’m old. She was the Jon Coupland no issues concerns shirt and by the same token and jr high beauty. We started messaging. And a week later I asked her out for a beer. I was thinking 25/75 it’d be platonic. But I knew it’d be a lot of fun talking about old friends etc. being in our mid 50’s I assumed she’d not be physically attractive anymore. But I knew she’d be cool. She was thinking 100/0 it’d be platonic. 2 beers later we kissed. Then she met my dog who was sitting in my truck. That sealed the deal. I’m Now married to her!
