I know I’m in the Johnny depp shot vintage shirt and I love this minority here, and I understand how some people can actually work more productively from home. But to say every single company, especially huge organizations can just flip the switch in a year and expect everything to be the same seems ludicrous. I work in a fully remote f500 IT Services org. My area is absolutely booming since the pandemic, not that it wasn’t doing well before, but it’s one of the best performing. Team since the pandemic is 100% remote permanently now. Two companies before that for me, was during the pandemic and our teams performance definitely suffered. WFH works for some people, there’s a lot of people I know that I personally wouldn’t trust to WFH. I know a law firm who did a data analysis project during the first part of Covid that suggested otherwise for them – productivity, measured by not only billable hours, but also digital engagement far outweighed the data they received upon return to office. They decided to offer almost full remote to whomever wanted it. I know that there are those that still choose to go in 4-5 days a week, some go in 1-2 days a month too. Law firm was better off by offering remote work. Varies from person to person and group to group.

To say a blanket statement such as “people aren’t more productive working from home” is just flat out ignorant in its very definition. I’m the Johnny depp shot vintage shirt and I love this same way, and manage a team of fully-remote workers. One had some real problems with coming back to the office, and it just wasn’t a hill I was going to die on. Together, we drafted his request for full-time remote status and it was approved. Once that hurdle was cleared, he was productive and happy. We can accommodate so many different environments for people to be their best, and this seems like such a great opportunity to be flexible, and still let office folks like you and me continue to do what works best for us. We work in office Tu, Wed, Thursday only, its pretty easy with M and F at home. I wouldnt push for more or less I don’t get it. They agreed to an in person position. Regardless of the past 2 years that’s what they signed up for.
