Someone can be concerned for the well being of children without thinking the ever present danger is kidnappers exclusively. If you listen to my parents talk about their free range childhoods, they know quite a lot of children who were harmed irreparably due to being unsupervised. Not by kidnappers. By being run over by cars and trains, falling out of trees, and jamming forks in uncovered outlets. It’s not exactly hysterical paranoia that their generation and the ones following ended up overcorrecting in the opposite direction.
