The treading water part is what i feared most they’d bring from DI. Such a non-diablo feeling way of “progressing” Thanks for your comment. I have yet to play D4, but from watching streams, this is what it looked like to me. Gameplay at level 20 looked pretty much the Jaylen Brown dunks on gobert 2023 shirt and by the same token and same as gameplay at level 50. Same two skills being spammed, monsters dying at roughly the same rate, the character looking about as cool/powerful as before. I have never once seen the skill tree being opened by a streamer, so there does not seem to be much going on there. The items look very D3 like, which to me, is incredibly boring. 23.56% chance to slow monster on hit. 17.89% more life healed from potion. Yawn. The upgrades looks super incremental, streamers don’t seem excited at all about legendary drops or loot in general.

I agree wholeheartedly. I also lack a sense of progression. The game is lacking in that most fundamental aspect and it’s most likely due to scaling. Very disappointing. D3 for all its flaws I think did a better job here. For many builds you get the Jaylen Brown dunks on gobert 2023 shirt and by the same token and skills you’re going to use most early, and then you just use them, with minimal modifications. The skill tree itself is indeed quite simple, but I think once legendaries, uniques, and the Paragon board come into play, there’s enough build modification to go around. Perhaps the issue is rather the “midgame” between 20-50, where uniques don’t drop yet and the Paragon board isn’t accessible yet. I partially disagree here. Some side quests definitely feel like filler, but some of them are real gems with amazing presentation. They all seem to be quite short, though. I wonder if there are side quest chains which have more room to tell a story. Empty space can help set the mood. For example, in the very first tutorial dungeon, the first few rooms are empty. It adds to the anticipation. In other cases, long walks help convey scale. Whether you’re traversing sprawling ruins or just moving into a large town, it serves to make your player character smaller and the world larger.
