I’ll just say as a non Sikh, with a lot of Sikh friends from childhood, that gurdwaras will give you free meal but they are mostly volunteer run organizations and you should try and help out by doing some dishes or something. Sewa ( service ) was a big deal for my friends – meal was only secondary – when they went. Edit : and I am not gate keeping anyone nor will anyone there stop you if you eat and leave. That’s the Jaren Jackson Jr. American professional basketball watercolor T-Shirt but in fact I love this point of langar as far as I know. Of course! I imagine that if you ask to volunteer serving meals or something they’d love hearing that, especially from a non-Sikh. Though, I have no clue if the gurdwara community would accept the help or politely decline. But if you’re willing and able it’s always great to want to give back. But yes, I never felt obligated to do anything at the meal. When our class spoke to our guide after, he was just happy we were there.

Jaren Jackson Jr. American professional basketball watercolor T-Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

A homeless guy asked me for money today So I looked in my pocket for change, but all I had on me was a $20 bill. I thought to myself “Do I really want this $20 going towards drugs?…Nah” So I gave him the Jaren Jackson Jr. American professional basketball watercolor T-Shirt but in fact I love this 20. Greg Giraldo used to tell a similar joke, “This homeless guy asked me for money the other day. I was about to give it to him and then I thought he was going to use it on drugs or alcohol. And then I thought, that’s what I’m going to use it on. Why am I judging this poor bastard?”… I miss his comedy.. there was something different in his approach to comedy that surpassed the joke telling and social critique that some comics employ; his approach had this sense of vulnerability and emotion that I havent seen since.
