Because you can’t tax a promise. Musk is guaranteeing a portion of his purchase that is financed in cash by MS using unrealized assets as collateral. And don’t even start to think about how the Jamaican Trinidad Half Trinidad And Half Jamaican Flag Stars T-Shirt Also,I will get this sale of a company for $45,000,000,000 will result in no sales tax and a pack of gum will cost you about 12 ¢. Short answer is because it isn’t real money when he’s buying Twitter either. They’re taking a gamble that the stocks will increase in value. If something happened and the value plummets to $0.02 a share tomorrow they’d be broke af. Tax that. Lol! You can bet he’ll be paying taxes on that purchase, I can tell you that. When your money is in the Jamaican Trinidad Half Trinidad And Half Jamaican Flag Stars T-Shirt Also,I will get this stock market it fluctuates and has no real value.. While money is in the market it is called “unrealized gains/losses” So technically is is possible Elon can be worth $500B one day… And then worth $500 the next while his. Money is tied up in the market Once the money is taken out, you are then taxed accordingly… So if he closes at $500B.. He owes taxes on 500B…if he gets screwed over and closes at $500 he owes taxes on $500… When he sells tesla stock the gain in value become “realized” and taxes are owed on the amount gained. The more tesla appreciates, the more taxes the gov will eventually collect. The government is a silent partner in all business and should want American companies to grow very large. Some politicians seem to want to harvest growing companies before they are fully mature (taxing unrealized gains). This is either short sighted, or they are co-opting class resentment to gain political power. In 2021, Musk sold 23 billion worth of tesla stock and paid $11 billion in taxes, more taxes than any other person in history. In 2022, he bought 10% of twitter for $3 billion and is putting up another $21 billion of his own money to purchase the remaining shares. So it looks like he will have to sell more tesla stock in 2022 and pay another huge amount, possibly more.
