The Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF) has been fined 1 million rubles (approximately $16,000) for violating the terms of Ivan Fedotov’s contract with CSKA Moscow. Fedotov, a goaltender for the Philadelphia Flyers, was detained in Russia in July and accused of evading military service. He was later released but is still facing charges.

The RIHF was found to have violated the contract between Fedotov and CSKA by not releasing him to the Flyers. The federation argued that Fedotov was ineligible to play for the Flyers because he was still under contract with CSKA. However, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) ruled that Fedotov was free to sign with the Flyers.

The RIHF has since appealed the IIHF’s decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). CAS is expected to rule on the appeal in the coming weeks. In the meantime, the RIHF has been ordered to pay the fine.

The Fedotov case has been a major source of tension between the RIHF and the IIHF. The IIHF has accused the RIHF of violating Fedotov’s rights and of interfering with his career. The RIHF has denied these allegations and has accused the IIHF of bias against Russia.
