While the It’s The Self Love For Me T-Shirt and I love this costume nods this year may mostly remain within Academy’s comfort zone, and there were still a few notable omissions, it appears the visible progress being made in recognizing a broader pool of talent in the top-line nominations is beginning to slowly catch up in the costumes race too. With the inclusion of a handful of less predictable nods, it isn’t just white-led period dramas dominating the category as in previous years, with attention paid to Black Jazz Age style, historic Chinese dress, and a touch of auteur-led Italian high fantasy. There’s still work to be done when it comes to broadening the pool of what the Academy considers a worthy costume nominee, but this year marks an important step forward.

It’s The Self Love For Me T-Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

Last night, after leaving the It’s The Self Love For Me T-Shirt and I love this restaurant Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, Rihanna stepped out in a head-turning mix of It items. Sure, there was her on-trend crop top that showed a sliver of midriff, her striped green and white mohair cardigan, and her hulking brown aviator jacket with a shearling lining. But it was what she was wearing below that served as the true standout: the ultimate lockdown combo of a pair of baggy sweatpants with sleek white heels. (Rihanna has long been an advocate for the sweatpants and stiletto combo, often arriving at airports in a gray pair with spindly Manolos, or a furry pair of navy sweats with knife-sharp pumps.)
