Honestly, a net worth of $125k isn’t even that great considering if they’re talking about people who bought a house prior to the It’s not the will of god if it goes against the word of god shirt and by the same token and current housing crisis, it’s all equity. Boomers in their 30s & 40s with a net worth of $125k basically meant they would have had about $500k today. Big difference. I make between 45k-50k a year in total. I’m not married, live alone, don’t have medical expendures, don’t have loans or payments. If I can’t work for a month or so due to any reason I’ll be homeless within a couple of months. Just for reference, I have a engineering degree, and I was hired in 1982 at the Patent Office straight out of college with zero experience @ the equivalent of about $56,000 in today’s dollars. New hires at the PTO today get about $58k.

Capitalism is eating the It’s not the will of god if it goes against the word of god shirt and by the same token and poor and causing a generational decline in standards of living and upward mobility. “Average” means nothing when you don’t know the sample set. This is obviously a skewed sample set designed to get these results. The point is to give people (boomers) a negative image/opinion of younger people and student debt forgiveness. Pretty transparent, IMHO. Would love to see a full break down of how much of this wealth is held by the top few hundred richest people this is based off of. They used net worth because 128k sounds like a lot at first.. but a 128k net worth is actually really low compared to the US average. The median US net worth is 121k according to the few sources I’ve found. . Which makes me curious as to where they got these figures and how accurate they are.
