There are certainly jobs with better benefits and there are many jobs with worth. The federal compensation system is an open book you just need to weigh what is important to you. And of course job stability is no secret. FERS Pension with vesting at 5 years and TSP (similar to 401k) with employer match. Health benefits are ok but you do pay a biweekly premium for health insurance and then add of dental, vision. PTO is just ok, you earn 4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period based on time in service. However government jobs have a direct pension which will probably make the difference in a lot of people’s ability to retire comfortably.

My private sector job is definitely more interesting and has more “soft benefits” (dog friendly office, hybrid options, flex time). But my company stopped raises when COVID hit and they haven’t restarted them. So I haven’t gotten a raise or COLA in years while inflation has gone rampant and cost of living has increased a crazy amount.
