netcost is new. it started as one or two stores in brooklyn around 15 years ago and grew. the It’s A Taylor Thing You Wouldn’t Understand Swifties shirt and I love this russians there nicknamed it the russian costco. stop and shop is older and has been around for longer. the few i’ve been in look OK inside except for the self checkout Interesting. I was thinking it was a small/local Jewish chain. Never seen a grocery store with a frozen pierogi bar. They had like 10 different types of frozen pierogies they were selling by the pound. Lots of other fresh premade meals and a nice produce department. Clean modern interior. they started by the Avenue U station in Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn. There is a big store in Rego Park Queens that’s been open close to a decade and has expanded during that time. One in Paramus and a bunch more.

those dumplings aren’t very good. the It’s A Taylor Thing You Wouldn’t Understand Swifties shirt it is in the first place but meat is crap and they’re bland. When I used to buy them I’d overload them with pepper, spices and sometimes hot sauce. many of the salads are OK but they’re copies of greek/turkish salads which are a lot better. the russian thing is to add mayo to everything. probably because the region is too cold to grow olives It’s not the stores it’s the prices. Shoprite, Walmart, and Target are much cheaper.I did the commute from Hoboken to Mahwah (near Frankin Lakes) and it was pretty miserable. I did driving and NJ transit, both were draining. Morristown is your best bet. It is 30 minutes without traffic to Franklin Lakes and there is a younger crowd. Some of the apartments are probably more expensive compared to the area but less than Hoboken/Jersey City. Young areas with stuff to do for 20 somethings: Hoboken area, Morristown (a bit older than young 20 somethings), Montclair, New Brunswick, Asbury Park, Somerville…that’s really all that comes to mind. None are cheap and none are close to Franklin Lakes, but you can’t really have both inexpensive AND popular with young people.
