I actually turned down my first fed final offer after I passed my security investigation because I was working as a contractor at my company and they offered me a permanent role and it was too good to pass up. Granted I work in finance so our benefits are on par if not better than government. Like for instance I have a 401k, unlimited PTO, remote work, amazing work like balance, great salary. The thing that attracts me to federal is that I can actually do a job that pertains to my background better, the pension, and the stability. Not a shot at federal employees, but I feel like a lot of people that preach about the amazingness of federal benefits weren’t in the private sector at a good company, or are so far removed that they forget. It’s also a mantra chanted by their employer so they forget how underpaid they are if they are in the middle-higher pay grades.
